THE ART OF CREATING
Dear friend,
I hope you enjoy(ed) these holidays with your loved ones!
The time in between years is ideal to reflect on what truly matters.🎄❤️
That's why I want to share the most potent technology there is.
It's not AI.
There is something better and more powerful. The force behind every great invention, masterpiece, and breakthrough.
It’s the creative process—few understand it, and even fewer use it for their lives.
Here's why it's revolutionary:
Most of society is stuck in problem-solving mode:
Problem-solving eliminates what you don’t want.
You can fix all the problems in the world and still not have what you desire.
For example, getting rid of disease is not thriving health, improving your salary is not meaningful work, and so on.
Creating brings into being what you do want.
If you focus on creating what you truly want, you’ll unlock a world of possibilities—and increase the odds of having what you want (circumstances like lack of money, confidence, knowledge, or time matter far less than you think).
For example, making money from being yourself and doing what you love. (We are in an age where that's actually possible!)
Let's dive in:
The Creative Process in 4 Steps
Robert Fritz laid out and popularized this process as the 'Structural Tension Chart.'
Step 1: Outcome
Define what you want—independent of your current circumstances or what you believe is possible.
Describe the result (what), not the process (how).
Be specific, measurable, and time-bound.
For example, instead of saying, “I want to exercise more,” define the result: “I run a 5K in under 30 min by 31st March '25.”
Step 2: Current Reality
Define where you are now in relation to your outcome.
Stay objective—focus on the facts, not assumptions or exaggerations.
Include resources, knowledge, systems, team, or lack thereof.
For example, “I run a 5K in 45 min.”
Step 3: Action Steps
Define the specific steps to bridge the discrepancy.
Each step should be specific, measurable, and time-bound.
Define the sequence of the steps and their ownership.
Ask: “Will these actions lead to the result?” Adjust or add steps if necessary.
The only limit is your imagination (and the laws of physics).
I have countless examples:
I used this process to turn an almost divorce into a joyful family or finally do work I truly love (incl. writing emails to amazing folks like you 😘).
My clients used it to start podcasts, write songs, launch their business, attract clients they love to work with, find meaning, heal, break out of limiting patterns, and more.
Why does it work?
Because tension seeks resolution.
The discrepancy between your
outcome (=where you want to be) and
current reality (=where you are)
creates creative tension—a natural pull toward new equilibrium (=outcome).
You defined the path of least resistance toward achieving it.
Think of a stretched 🏹. Released—the arrow fires towards the 🎯.
It's physics.
This process created your computer, this email, and AI itself.
It's the most potent technology there is.
Here is the thing:
Don't confuse the creative process with OKR, RPM, to-do lists, or other goal-setting exercises. Most of them miss one or more steps or mix up their order.
Instead of generating creative tension, they end up as loose rubber bands. And you must compensate by controlling, forcing, or pressure.
That's it. Now, you have the key to unlocking your creative spirit. And your lasting success.
Time to apply it.
Creating alone is possible, but more fun (and far more effective) together:
To unlock your full creative capacity and create what matters most to you.
I supported +100 graduates to create a life with more joy, purpose, and success. We completed the last cohort just before Christmas, and one graduate literally said:
"This was the best workshop ever" – Jennifer Wescott.
What’s one thing you’d create if anything were possible? Reply with your thoughts—I’d love to hear what matters to you.
Let's create together, Simon
PS. Whenever you're ready, there are 3 ways I can help you:
#1 Check out my podcast. You'll learn from independent leaders and free thinkers how to be true to yourself. And lead a free, inspired, and meaningful life.
#3 Book me as a coach or consultant. We go deep into what is holding you back. And what it is that you want to create. Then we establish the strategies to make that happen.

SIMON RILLING THE ART OF CREATING Dear friend, "Nothing is certain except death and taxes?" (Benjamin Franklin) Not quite. (Taxes are voluntary, and death is a concept, but that's another story.) The only thing that's 100% certain: Nothing will stay the same. Change is the only constant. Here’s how to enjoy it, not fear it. No single moment is ever like the next. "Life is impermanent" – Buddha Life = Change Which leaves with this choice only: A) You fear and resist change: Most people do....
SIMON RILLING THE ART OF CREATING Dear friend, Do you know decision fatigue? Overwhelm? Analysis paralysis?Nothing is wrong with you. But your focus is. Let me explain. What's the one meta-skill that makes or breaks your life? Focus. "I'm constantly shifting focus.""I'm overwhelmed by options"."I don't know what decisions to take". Sound familiar? You either wilfully force decisions — or timidly avoid them. You cope instead of acting strategically from your natural rhythm. Why? Because you...
SIMON RILLING THE ART OF CREATING Dear friend, Authenticity is your power. Most define themselves by adding: more knowledge, skills, or performance. But authenticity only comes from removing what you are not. But what does that really mean? Let's find out. What does authenticity mean? The Duden dictionary defines it as: "real, corresponding to the facts, and therefore credible". But when are you truly real? That’s a question mystics have explored for centuries. Let’s break it down: You have...
