Living freely starts with thinking beyond boxes

THE ART OF CREATING

Dear friend,

Last week, I became a father.

A hugely transformative event that inspired today's email. Enjoy 😘

Thinking freely is the challenge of our time.

We live in a society that LOVES to categorize, normalize, and box everything in—including you.

And so, we suffocate. Under rules, concepts, conformity—boxed in:

Good/bad. Right/wrong. Beautiful/ugly. Safe/dangerous. Possible/impossible.

But you are not a box.

Breaking Free beyond the Boxes

Over the last decade, I’ve questioned—and ultimately stepped beyond—many of them:

  • Health: My father, grandfather, and uncle all died of cancer. Then I recognized: My genes don’t define me—my choices do.
  • Fitness: Doctors (incl. the Swiss Olympic Medical Center) insisted I accept my impairments. I reclaimed competitive fitness after 10+ surgeries.
  • Career: Screw 9 to 5. I’ll invent my own way.
  • Retirement: Why wait until the end of life to live?
  • Money: (Financial) Freedom doesn't come from savings.
  • Spirituality: Truth isn’t in books—it’s in direct experience.
  • Creativity & Self-Expression: No more permission needed.
  • Statism & propaganda: Screw division (& control); individual choices matter!

What do all boxes have in common?

They condition you to believe you are dependent.
Dependent on a paycheck. Approval. A diagnosis. Authority.

And fear keeps you from stepping beyond.

  • Avoid conflict and confrontation.
  • Don't say what you think.
  • Suppress your dreams.
  • Neglect your intuition.

Is it any wonder why so many people feel stressed, depressed, unfulfilled and suffer from chronic disease?

Because existing in a box isn’t living.

(Like a plant deprived of sunlight and water, you wither when you don't express your own ideas and forge your own path.)

Just recently, I experienced where the boxing really starts.

Birth.

The first box we’re placed in is how we are born.

The standard model:

  • Listen to the doctors.
  • Follow their advice.
  • Schedule your birth.
  • Go to the hospital.
  • Get drugs.

Now—there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with any of that.

But it’s not the only way.

This approach assumes that parents depend on external authorities to birth their child.

That belief becomes the first imprint—the unconscious foundation for a lifetime of staying in boxes.

From everything I’ve now experienced, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The First Time Around, We Followed the Box.

We were pregnant.
We followed the script—A to Z.

Skipping any step seemed blasphemous, dangerous, or simply insane.

But after years of deconditioning, my wife and I had become really good at questioning assumptions.

Finally, we asked:

  1. What if birth is where the boxing begins?
  2. What if the body knows exactly what to do?
  3. What if birth isn’t something to be mechanically planned?

Then (luckily or logically?), we met people who had birthed radically differently:

  • At home.
  • With only their partner (no midwife).
  • No medical checkups. No bright lights. No drugs.

And their stories? Mind-blowing.

  • Orgasmic experiences.
  • Birth as spiritual initiation.
  • Deep intimacy and bonding.
  • A deep flow with inner intelligence.
  • An incredibly empowering, magical, and transformative event.

Completely unlike the mainstream narrative of birth as terrifying and painful.

The Wildest Example?

Our friend Manari, spiritual leader of the indigenous Sapara, was born on a riverbank in the Amazon while his parents lived as nomads.

When you immerse yourself in their world, anything other than natural birth seems insane.

Then, a podcast guest dropped this gem:

Unassisted birthing is as natural as pooping.

Think about it.

We don’t go to school to learn how to poop.
We don’t need a doctor to extract it for us.

It’s a natural process—unless it’s interfered with.

So, I Was Intrigued.

I had three podcast conversations with incredible women about free birth. (Listen to them here, here , and here.)

And I realized that free birth at home isn’t just “another option.” It’s actually safer than hospital birth—provided certain conditions are met.

There are really only four real risks:

  1. Lack of money (for safe conditions)
  2. Lack of hygiene
  3. Exhaustion (during birth)
  4. Fear

And Fear—That’s the Big One.

Fear disconnects you from your intuitive bodily intelligence and locks you in your reactive (rational) mind.

It makes you try to control birth instead of surrendering to it.

When you bring up free birth, people usually react in one of two ways:

  1. Curiosity and excitement: They know or recognize the true beauty (the minority).
  2. Resistance: Often because their own birth was traumatic, and it seems painful to consider another reality (the majority).

Fear is when it doesn’t work. Fear is when problems arise.

I Was Born in a Hospital Too.

And—despite my mother’s love and best intent—it left scars.

So, preparing for free birth meant facing my own fears, traumas, and assumptions.
Boxes I was born in.

In any case—my wife was leading the way.

I was only there to support her and hold space.

And as we stepped beyond that box…

It Opened a Completely New, Enchanting, Empowering Experience.

There is an intelligence—divine, spiritual, natural, whatever you want to call it—that knows exactly how to birth and live.

Life becomes so simple when you surrender to that force within you.

A force that is always acting in your absolute best interest.

It's not just about babies

What I am writing about is relevant for ALL aspects of your life.

Because the raw expression of creative energy is birth—bringing something entirely new into existence. Something that wasn't there before.

A song, a poem, a business, a relationship… or a child.

It's about making your vision real. And creating what you love.

That's when your spirit drives and your life blossoms.

The Key?

Hand your life orientation over to your inherent soulful intelligence.
(Your rational mind doesn’t know best.)

So:

  • Make a choice.
  • Face and process your fears.
  • Stop controlling and surrender.

I’m Not Here to Convince You.

Or to make anyone wrong about birth. Or to tell you what’s right for you.

You know best.

But it’s good to know your choices.
And to recognize the deep, natural intelligence within you.

If you choose it.

Living freely starts with thinking beyond boxes

Here is the simple formula:

  1. Recognise the boxes you live in.
  2. Decide which serve you—and which don’t.
  3. Step beyond those that don’t.
  4. Create your own way.
  5. Live freely.

Sounds abstract? Not sure where to start?

I've got you covered.

My program, ‘The Art of Creating 1,helps you create your own way.

Not mine. Yours! Because that’s what you truly long for.
The reality? There are no boxes—only imagination.

Time to start using it for yourself.

And the best part? It doesn’t have to be painful or boring. In fact, it’s fun, exciting, and deeply fulfilling to reconnect with that creative intelligence within you.

After all, it's your life force.

SIMON RILLING THE ART OF CREATING Dear friend, "Nothing is certain except death and taxes?" (Benjamin Franklin) Not quite. (Taxes are voluntary, and death is a concept, but that's another story.) The only thing that's 100% certain: Nothing will stay the same. Change is the only constant. Here’s how to enjoy it, not fear it. No single moment is ever like the next. "Life is impermanent" – Buddha Life = Change Which leaves with this choice only: A) You fear and resist change: Most people do....

SIMON RILLING THE ART OF CREATING Dear friend, Do you know decision fatigue? Overwhelm? Analysis paralysis?Nothing is wrong with you. But your focus is. Let me explain. What's the one meta-skill that makes or breaks your life? Focus. "I'm constantly shifting focus.""I'm overwhelmed by options"."I don't know what decisions to take". Sound familiar? You either wilfully force decisions — or timidly avoid them. You cope instead of acting strategically from your natural rhythm. Why? Because you...

SIMON RILLING THE ART OF CREATING Dear friend, Authenticity is your power. Most define themselves by adding: more knowledge, skills, or performance. But authenticity only comes from removing what you are not. But what does that really mean? Let's find out. What does authenticity mean? The Duden dictionary defines it as: "real, corresponding to the facts, and therefore credible". But when are you truly real? That’s a question mystics have explored for centuries. Let’s break it down: You have...
